Delos
A unique and historical island that is very close to Mykonos. ( 1 hour ferry)
It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site for various reasons.
A few of those (and I quote): ”Delos is famous for both mythological and actual historical reasons. According to legend, Delos is the birthplace of Apollo and his sister Artemis. The mighty statue of Apollo was considered to be the most sacred site in Greece (only the base survives today).
The island was thus a destination for countless pilgrims, and not only hosted a famous oracle and the Delian Festival but also the main slave market of the Mediterranean world”
Visiting this island is a chance to walk around the revival of the glory of the Greek civilization. Nowhere else in the Globe is there a natural insular archaeological site of this size and importance.
No other island on Earth hosts so many monumental antiquities from the Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic periods. It is a precious piece of Greek history!
Delos is not a museum; nor is it here to tell a story. Delos is history itself.

This is such a helpful and in depth overview of the islands in Greece. Leveraging this for my trip planning!
Greek Island hopping is definitely on our travel wish list. We had a few islands on our list. But this post sure added some new spots for us to include. I did not realize there we so many different groupings of Greek Islands. So we may need more than one trip to cover them all!
OK, I’m ready to pack my bags! Thanks for this comprehensive overview. Each island is beautiful but has a different feel.
Wow this would be a dream trip, stunning!
Wow, I would love to do at least part of it. It’s real travel inspiration to me. I have been just to few of Greek islands, so many more to explore. Thanks for sharing!
Really liked this guide. I always struggle with choosing where to go in large archipelagoes outside my own region, because I can’t tell what makes the different clusters different, and then the options within the island clusters too. So I liked that you split the islands into groups, with a vibe description.
What an epic guide! I haven’t been to Greece yet and your photography is giving me some serious wanderlust.
